Plant gears up for Porsche season finale

Richard Plant prepared for the final rounds of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB season by incredibly setting exactly the same time as his main rookie rival Sam Tordoff during testing at Silverstone.

The two sessions on Friday were largely contested using the rubber from the previous gruelling event on the Brands Hatch GP circuit, and it was unfortunately on these tyres that Richard set his fastest lap in session two. In almost a carbon copy of his weekend in Kent last time out, a red flag stopped the session just as Derbyshire driver Plant was on his quickest run.

It was extremely frustrating for Plant as the majority of the series front-runners had already completed a lap on fresh rubber, and his frustration worsened when the stewards decided not to restart the session due to the nature of the accident endured by a competitor.

Despite Tordoff and Plant only coming home ninth at the end of the final session, Plant remains confident for the weekend ahead. "The red flag was just one of those things," he said. "I just hope it's not the start of some bad luck like we had at Brands. The circuit is quite small for the Porsche's and a lot of time can be won or lost into the first corner. We will trawl through the data and get ourselves prepared for qualifying. I just can't believe it's the final weekend of the season - it has gone so fast but I have really enjoyed it."

Qualifying takes place tomorrow before the crucial double-header commences on Sunday. Stephen Jelley, James Sutton and Michael Meadows are all gunning for the title while Plant is focussed on remaining as series top rookie - all the action can be seen live on ITV4 HD and full reports will follow here on Richard's official website.
